Receiving notifications from RemoFirst is useful when something actually requires your attention. The problem starts when every team update, request, and administrative change generates another email.
RemoFirst introduced Notification Preferences to give company users more control over these messages.
However, the feature has an important limitation: not every notification is optional, and not every manager sees the same settings.
The platform decides which categories are available based on your assigned responsibilities.
Two Types of Notifications
RemoFirst separates email alerts into two categories.
Manageable Notifications can be enabled or disabled individually through account preferences.
System Notifications remain enabled because the platform considers them necessary for particular workflows.
This distinction explains why some notifications have an on/off switch while others don’t appear in the settings at all.
A missing toggle doesn’t necessarily indicate a broken interface.
Where to Find Notification Preferences
RemoFirst provides notification controls in the Client App.
Open your profile menu in the upper-right corner, select Account settings, and then open the Notifications tab.
The page displays the notification categories available to your role.
Each manageable category has a switch for email delivery.
Switching it off means you’ve opted out of that category of email alerts.
These settings are intended for company users with relevant administrative responsibilities. They shouldn’t be assumed to work identically in the separate contractor application.
Why Your Colleague Has Different Options
Notification Preferences are role-based.
A People Manager may see categories related to worker updates, hiring activities, time-off requests, and contract changes.
An Expense Approver may receive categories associated with requests requiring review.
A PTO Approver can see alerts related to time-off requests and timesheet approvals.
Team Admins have broader notification responsibilities for the teams they oversee.
This means two managers working for the same company may have different notification settings even though they’re using the same application.
People Manager Notifications
People Managers deal with several types of administrative changes.
RemoFirst identifies worker updates, hiring assistance, time off, and contract changes among the relevant notification categories.
These alerts can be useful when a team is growing or several onboarding processes are underway.
However, not every update requires immediate attention from every manager.
Configurable notification preferences help reduce unnecessary messages while preserving the categories that matter to a person’s responsibilities.
The available switches depend on how RemoFirst classifies each notification.
PTO Approver vs. PTO Viewer
RemoFirst distinguishes between users who can approve time-off requests and those who can only review them.
The notification system reflects these responsibilities.
PTO-related roles can receive updates concerning time-off requests and timesheet activity.
However, receiving an alert doesn’t automatically establish permission to approve the underlying request.
A PTO Viewer may be able to examine relevant information without having the same decision-making authority as a PTO Approver.
Notification delivery and workflow permissions are related, but they aren’t interchangeable.
Why Some Alerts Cannot Be Disabled
RemoFirst classifies certain notifications as mandatory system messages.
These alerts remain enabled and are delivered automatically when the user’s role requires them.
Unlike manageable notifications, they aren’t presented as optional switches.
This is intentional behavior, not a missing feature.
RemoFirst’s documentation explains that some administrative responsibilities require notifications to remain active so important processes aren’t missed.
Therefore, turning off every configurable category doesn’t guarantee that all platform emails will stop.
What Happens When Your Role Changes?
Notification settings aren’t completely static.
RemoFirst automatically adjusts the available categories when a user’s assigned responsibilities change.
For example, someone who becomes a People Manager may begin seeing additional notification categories relevant to that role.
Similarly, a manager who no longer holds a particular responsibility may see fewer options.
This prevents the settings page from displaying unrelated categories indefinitely.
However, it also means your notification preferences may look different after an organizational change.
Team Admins Have Broader Visibility
Team Admins are responsible for overseeing their assigned teams.
RemoFirst’s notification system reflects that broader responsibility by providing updates associated with team activity.
This can be useful for managers coordinating several people and administrative processes.
But broader notification visibility also creates more potential email traffic.
Reviewing configurable categories is especially worthwhile for Team Admins who don’t need every optional update.
The underlying Team permissions still determine which records and actions they can access.
Turning Off Alerts Doesn’t Cancel Requests
Disabling an optional notification category changes the messages you receive.
It doesn’t cancel the underlying workflow.
For example, turning off a configurable time-off email doesn’t mean that time-off requests stop existing or that another person automatically becomes responsible for them.
The request remains subject to the company’s approval process.
This distinction matters because notification preferences are a communication setting, not a substitute for changing organizational responsibilities.
Why You Might Still Receive Emails
If emails continue after you’ve disabled several categories, check whether the messages belong to mandatory system notifications.
Also review your current role.
A recent permission change may have introduced additional categories or mandatory messages.
Don’t assume that a switch for one notification category controls every email concerning the same general subject.
RemoFirst separates configurable alerts from system-required communication.
A Better Way to Configure Notifications
Start by identifying which updates genuinely require your attention.
Keep relevant approval and operational notifications enabled where they’re configurable.
Disable optional categories that don’t contribute to your daily responsibilities.
Then review the settings again if your role or Team assignment changes.
The goal isn’t necessarily to eliminate every message. It’s to reduce irrelevant notifications without losing visibility into tasks you’re responsible for handling.
What RemoFirst Gets Right—and Where It Stops
RemoFirst’s Notification Preferences are useful because they recognize that different managers need different information.
A People Manager, PTO Approver, and Team Admin shouldn’t automatically receive identical sets of alerts.
The limitation is that customization isn’t universal. Mandatory system notifications remain outside the user’s control, and the available categories change with assigned roles.
If you can’t find a particular notification switch, check whether the alert is mandatory or outside your assigned role. RemoFirst gives managers control over optional email categories, but it doesn’t provide a universal switch to silence every system message.
